The Arizona Diamondbacks and outfielder Trot Nixon agreed to a minor league contract Friday. The 33-year-old Nixon has a .275 career batting average in 11 major league seasons with 136 home runs and 554 RBIs. He batted .251 with three homers and 31 RBIs in 99 games with Cleveland last season. Nixon spent his first [...]

Diamondbacks’ Chris Young looks to build on big rookie season (AP)

Chris Young wandered by as Arizona Diamondbacks teammate Orlando Hudson gave an interview the other day. “Throw me a line in there, O,” Young said. Hudson shook his head and shot back, “I’m throwing you nothing. You ain’t done nothing in this game.” Hudson winked at the reporter. It was a snappy putdown, but it [...]

Lasorda set to manage Dodgers again — in spring training (AP)

A dozen years after he retired, Tom Lasorda is coming back to manage the Los Angeles Dodgers. In spring training, that is. The 80-year-old Hall of Famer will guide a split squad of Dodgers for eight games in March while Joe Torre takes the other half to China for a two-game exhibition series. “There [...]

Hudson looks to bounce back from injury (AP)

Orlando Hudson likes to look on the bright side. It has taken a little extra effort in the last six months. In September, Hudson’s first All-Star season was cut short by a thumb injury, robbing him of his first shot at postseason play. In November, he nearly lost his mother, Mae, who spent weeks in [...]

A’s Gold Glover Chavez healthy but cautious after three surgeries (AP)

Eric Chavez warmed up for his workout on the elliptical machine in an empty weight room as many of his Oakland teammates were already outside on the field or in the batting cage. He stayed indoors, and later emerged from his rehabilitation work in the training room with one ice bag on his right shoulder [...]

Veteran outfielder Trot Nixon works out for Diamondbacks (AP)

Veteran Trot Nixon has worked out for the Arizona Diamondbacks as a possible addition should Chad Tracy not be ready to play when the season opens. Nixon worked out on a Diamondbacks’ practice field on Sunday, then returned home on Monday. If Tracy is healthy, there appear to be no vacancies on the Arizona roster.
