Webb gives up run in first, ending scoreless streak at 42 innings (AP)
Brandon Webb’s scoreless streak ended at 42 innings Wednesday night when Milwaukee’s Prince Fielder singled home a run in the first against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Webb, the reigning NL Cy Young Award winner, fell 17 innings shy of Orel Hershiser’s major league record of 59 straight shutout innings set in 1988.

The Washington Nationals traded for Wily Mo Pena on Friday and completed the deal on Tuesday, acquiring first baseman-outfielder Chris Carter from the Arizona Diamondbacks and sending him on to the Boston Red Sox.

Arizona third baseman Mark Reynolds ties major league record with 9 straight strikeouts (AP)
Arizona third baseman Mark Reynolds tied the major league record for consecutive strikeouts by a non-pitcher Tuesday when he struck out swinging in the fourth inning of the Diamondbacks’ game against the Milwaukee Brewers. The mark had been set five times previously, most recently by Kansas City’s Bo Jackson from September 16-19, 1988.
