The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed popular outfielder Eric Byrnes to a three-year, $30 million contract extension through 2010. Arizona called a news conference before Tuesday night’s game against Pittsburgh, and the purpose was to announce Byrnes’ deal, according to a person familiar with the negotiations who requested anonymity because the announcement had not been made.
