Quentin finally gets his big league chance (AP)
Carlos Quentin deserved to be in the big leagues at the start of last season. Arizona manager Bob Melvin and general manager Josh Byrnes agree on that. Caught in a numbers game, with veterans ahead of him, Quentin had to wait not-so-patiently at Triple-A Tucson. When he got his chance late last July, he made [...]

Talkative second baseman loves the talent around him (AP)
Second baseman Orlando Hudson is the old man of the Arizona infield at 29. Diamondbacks manager Bob Melvin said Hudson has become a leader, a role Hudson defers to teammate Tony Clark. But unlike Clark, Hudson is an everyday player and a two-time Gold Glove winner. Then there’s that always-talking, always-upbeat personality.

Confident shortstop ready for his first full big league season (AP)
Stephen Drew has worn that “can’t miss” label practically from the time he first picked up a bat. Young right-hander vies for rotation after 1 season in pros (AP)
Throughout the offseason, major league teams called the Arizona Diamondbacks asking about a trade for pitcher Micah Owings. “We had to say no a lot,” general manager Josh Byrnes said. Easygoing Cy Young winner still a Kentuckian through and through (AP)
Success will not spoil Brandon Webb. It’s impossible to imagine this easygoing right-hander as a prima donna. He is Kentucky through and through, regardless of the Cy Young Award he won last year. “He’s that kind of guy who’s a star but doesn’t see himself as a star,” Arizona manager Bob Melvin said Sunday.

Big Unit, Jered Weaver among pitchers hoping to get healthy this spring (AP)
Randy Johnson arrived at spring training ready to work his way back from surgery, while Jered Weaver is confident his sore arm won’t slow him down too much. Back with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Johnson made the familiar trek down Interstate 10 from his Paradise Valley home and found his name on the same spring [...]
